Peer Reviewed... But Does It Actually Prove Anything?

A closer look at Wellbeing International Foundation's latest longevity study



For years, the regenerative medicine industry has relied heavily on testimonials, celebrity endorsements and patient stories. Scientific evidence has often lagged behind marketing.

So when Wellbeing International Foundation announced that its longevity programme had now been published in the peer-reviewed journal Frontiers in Aging, many people naturally assumed this represented independent proof that its treatment works.

After reading both the published paper and Wellbeing's own announcement in detail, the reality appears considerably more complicated.

The study is genuine.

The journal is genuine.

The peer review is genuine.

But does it prove what many readers may think it proves?

The answer is no.


The Study Is Real

Unlike many promotional articles seen throughout the stem cell industry, this paper genuinely exists within the scientific literature.

It was published in Frontiers in Aging in June 2026 and underwent formal peer review before publication.

That immediately places it above many clinics that rely solely on marketing claims.

However, publication alone does not prove a treatment is effective.

Peer review is simply the beginning of scientific scrutiny—not the end.


Who Conducted The Research?

The first question any investigator should ask is:

Who performed the research?

The paper was written by researchers employed by Wellbeing International Foundation together with employees from xLongevity.

In other words...

The organisations selling or promoting the programme were also responsible for designing, conducting and publishing the research.

This is not uncommon in pharmaceutical research.

Nor does it automatically invalidate the findings.

But it does mean the study cannot be regarded as independent confirmation.

Whenever commercial organisations evaluate their own products, conflicts of interest become an important consideration.

The authors openly acknowledge these relationships within the paper.


Fourteen Volunteers

Only fourteen participants completed the programme.

That immediately limits the statistical power of any conclusions.

Small pilot studies are useful for generating ideas.

They are not designed to provide definitive proof.


The Biggest Problem

Perhaps the greatest weakness of the entire study is something surprisingly simple.

Nobody knows which part of the programme actually worked.

Participants did not simply receive Wellbeing's cell-free therapy.

They also underwent:

• dietary changes

• exercise advice

• intermittent fasting

• sleep optimisation

• multiple nutritional supplements

• NMN

• GlyNAC

• Taurine

• Creatine

• Curcumin

• CoQ10

...alongside two infusions of autologous cell-conditioned media.

Every participant received everything.

There was no comparison group receiving only lifestyle advice.

No group receiving supplements alone.

No placebo infusion.

No sham treatment.

No randomisation.

No blinding.

Therefore, even if participants genuinely improved, nobody can determine which intervention produced those improvements.


Biological Age Is Not The Same As Actual Age

One of the headline claims promoted by Wellbeing is that participants finished the programme several years "biologically younger."

This sounds dramatic.

However, the paper measured biological age using mathematical ageing clocks—not actual reversal of human ageing.

No participant physically became several years younger.

The study did not demonstrate:

• longer lifespan

• reduced mortality

• disease prevention

• tissue regeneration

• improved mobility

• improved cognition

Instead, certain laboratory algorithms estimated that biological markers appeared younger following the programme.

Those are interesting findings.

But they are surrogate markers—not proof of rejuvenation.


The Marketing Numbers

One detail particularly caught my attention.

Wellbeing's announcement highlights participants finishing approximately:

• 5.8 years younger using one biological age clock

• 4.1 years younger using another

Those numbers are technically correct.

However, they represent where participants finished compared with their chronological age.

The actual change during the study was much smaller.

This distinction matters because many readers could understandably believe they had reversed over five years of ageing during four months.

That is not what the paper demonstrates.


No Independent Ethics Committee?

Another interesting aspect concerns ethics.

The paper explains that two registered physicians concluded, using UK Health Research Authority guidance, that NHS Research Ethics Committee approval was not required.

However...

The publication does not clearly identify:

  • the independent ethics committee;

  • the reviewing physicians;

  • the country where the infusions were administered;

  • the manufacturing laboratory responsible for producing the investigational material;

  • the accreditation of that laboratory.

None of these omissions necessarily indicate wrongdoing.

But for an experimental intravenous biological product administered to healthy volunteers, greater transparency would undoubtedly strengthen confidence.


Conflicts Of Interest

Perhaps the strongest disclosure within the paper is also one of its most important.

The authors openly declare that they were employed by the organisations involved in delivering the programme.

That honesty should be acknowledged.

Yet it also reinforces why independent replication now becomes essential.

Scientific history is full of promising pilot studies that failed when repeated independently.


What The Study Actually Shows

To be fair to the authors...

The paper itself is actually more cautious than some marketing surrounding regenerative medicine.

The researchers openly acknowledge many of the study's limitations.

They do not claim to have cured ageing.

They do not claim definitive proof.

Instead, they describe their work as preliminary evidence requiring larger controlled trials.

That is exactly how pilot studies should be presented.


My Conclusion

As someone who has spent considerable time investigating the regenerative medicine industry, I believe this publication represents an important step forward for Wellbeing International Foundation.

But it is only that—a first step.

The study demonstrates that a complex health programme was associated with improvements in several biological markers among fourteen volunteers.

It does not demonstrate that Wellbeing's Cell-Free Therapy caused those improvements.

It does not prove biological rejuvenation.

It does not establish effectiveness for patients.

Most importantly, it does not replace the need for large, independently funded, randomised controlled clinical trials.

Scientific credibility is earned not by one encouraging pilot study, but by repeated independent verification.

Until that happens, this paper should be viewed as an interesting preliminary investigation—not definitive proof of anti-ageing therapy.
